How Does OnlyFans Work? A Guide for Fans

Updated October 20, 2026 · Ranking.bio research team · 5 min read

OnlyFans works on subscriptions: you pay a creator's monthly price, set by the creator, to see their feed. The subscription renews automatically until you switch off Auto-Renew. Pay-per-view posts, paid messages and tips cost extra. In our data, 25.3% of live pages are free and the median paid page costs $12 a month.

How does OnlyFans work for fans?

OnlyFans is a subscription platform. You make an account, subscribe to a creator's page, and pay a monthly price that the creator sets. Some content and messages cost extra, and you can send tips.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to open a fan account.
  • All prices appear and are charged in US dollars, plus sales tax where it applies.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until you switch off "Auto-Renew".
  • Pay-per-view posts, paid messages and tips are separate from the subscription.
  • OnlyFans keeps a 20% fee from each fan payment. The creator receives the rest.
  • In Ranking.bio data (64,466 listed creator profiles, checked 20 October 2026), 25.3% of live pages are free.

This guide explains each step from the fan side. Ranking.bio is an independent creator directory. We are not part of OnlyFans, and we checked the rules below against the OnlyFans Terms of Service in October 2026.

How do you sign up and subscribe?

Register with an email address, a username and a password, add a payment method, and click "Subscribe" on a creator's page.

  1. Go to onlyfans.com and choose to sign up. You can also sign in with an approved third-party account.
  2. Confirm that you are 18 or older. In some locations, OnlyFans asks for an extra age or identity check through a third-party provider.
  3. Add a payment card in your account settings before you buy anything.
  4. Open a creator's page and check the price, the number of posts and any bundle offers.
  5. Click "Subscribe". You pay the first period and get access to the creator's subscriber content.

To choose a page before you pay, browse the best OnlyFans creators in our directory. Each listing shows the price and media counts from the creator's page.

How much does an OnlyFans subscription cost?

Each creator sets their own price. In our data, the median paid page costs $12.00 a month. The mean is $14.59, and 90% of paid pages cost $25.00 or less.

The most common prices are $10 and $9.99. Many creators also offer bundles, which are discounts for paying several months at once. In our data, 58.3% of paid pages offer a bundle. See how much OnlyFans costs for prices by country and by gender.

What do you pay for beyond the subscription?

You can pay for pay-per-view (PPV) posts, paid messages and tips. These are one-time payments, taken at once, and they are separate from the monthly price.

  • Pay-per-view posts. A creator can lock a post behind a price. You pay once to unlock it.
  • Paid messages. A creator can send a locked message, often to many fans at once. You pay only if you open it.
  • Tips. You can send a tip to thank a creator. OnlyFans help pages list tips on posts, messages, live streams and profiles. OnlyFans sets tip and spending limits on fan accounts, and newer accounts have lower limits.
  • Wallet credits. You can prepay money into your OnlyFans wallet and spend it later. Wallet credits are non-refundable.

A purchase cannot be split between wallet credits and a card. If your wallet does not cover the full price, OnlyFans charges the full amount to your card. Free pages usually earn from PPV messages and tips. Our guide to free vs paid OnlyFans compares both models.

Before you pay for anything, check that the creator is active. In our data, 28.5% of creators hide their "last seen" time. Of those who show it, 74.1% were online in the 30 days before our check. The median live account has 260 posts, 66 videos and 266 photos.

How do renewals and cancellations work?

A subscription renews automatically at the current price at the end of each period. To stop it, switch off "Auto-Renew" on the creator's page. You keep access until the paid period ends.

The OnlyFans terms list four cases in which a subscription does not renew:

  1. Your payment is declined and you have no other payment method on file.
  2. The creator has raised the subscription price.
  3. You switched off "Auto-Renew" on that creator's page.
  4. You closed your OnlyFans account before the new period starts.

OnlyFans does not send a reminder before each renewal. The terms say you accept this when you click "Subscribe". If you have more than one card on file and the first fails, OnlyFans can use the other card. Check your active subscriptions from time to time. To leave the platform, read how to delete an OnlyFans account.

Can you get a refund on OnlyFans?

Refunds are not automatic. The OnlyFans terms forbid unjustified refund requests and chargebacks. OnlyFans can suspend or delete an account that makes them in bad faith.

  • Your legal consumer rights still apply. The terms say they do not remove any statutory right to a refund under the law where you live.
  • For purchases other than subscriptions, the usual UK and EU right to cancel does not apply. The fan contract says this is because you get access to the content.
  • Unused wallet credits are non-refundable.
  • If OnlyFans closes your account for a rule breach, it does not refund prepaid subscriptions.
  • If a charge is truly wrong, for example a double charge, contact OnlyFans support first.

A chargeback also ends your access. The terms say your licence to view the content expires if a payment is charged back or reversed.

How do messages work on OnlyFans?

Subscribers can send direct messages to creators. Creators can reply one to one or send the same message to many fans. Some of those messages are locked behind a price.

Keep three points in mind:

  • Some creators use free pages with paid messages. The subscription is free, but most content comes through PPV messages.
  • Some creators ask for a tip before you can send a message.
  • Chats can be hard to find in a busy inbox. Our guide on how to unhide messages on OnlyFans shows where they go.

What are the rules for using content and staying private?

You pay for a personal licence to view content on OnlyFans. You do not own the content, and you may not share it. The licence ends when your subscription ends, when the creator removes the content, or when your account closes.

The terms let fans view content for their own lawful and personal use. Sharing or reposting paid content without the creator's consent breaks the OnlyFans terms. It can also break copyright and privacy law. Creators can remove posts at any time, including PPV posts.

For your own privacy, read our guides on what creators can see about you and what shows on your bank statement.

How do you find creators to subscribe to?

OnlyFans has few discovery tools, so most fans arrive through a creator's own links. A directory helps you compare pages by price, category and location before you pay.

On Ranking.bio, you can search by name or topic in the OnlyFans finder. You can also find creators who list a city near you on the near-me map. Our guide to finding someone on OnlyFans covers usernames, social links and privacy.
